The Story Behind The Grass Man

Iowa born, Iowa State educated, and a little obsessed with good grass. Karter, the owner and operator of The Grass Man, found his love for lawn care in 2020 and has been perfecting it ever since. From a young age, Karter has always enjoyed a nice looking lawn. From mowing his childhood yard, to admiring thousands of hours of “lawnfluencers”, Karter took his passion and love of grass to a whole new level.

Starting in 2020, Karter did his first complete lawn renovation. From killing the existing lawn, leveling the property, and reseeding, he did it all with the whole neighborhood concerned for his well being. Fast forward to spring of 2021 and everyone was envious of his “golf course lawn.” Karter decided to do the same thing when he and his wife moved to their new house in December of 2021. Kill the established grass, level the yard, and reseed.

As if his obsession isn’t clear enough, his family regularly hears him walking through the door commenting on the lawn. “You need to mow”. “The grass is hungry”. “Your back yard looks thick!”. These phrases have been the norm for years. They have learned that it is unavoidable. He truly loves a great lawn from start to finish. This reputation cemented his nickname as, “The Grass Man”. He’s regularly receiving compliments and having conversations with community members about how they can achieve the same results as his own!

This sparked the idea of doing something he loves, while helping the community look its best. Anyone who knows Karter constantly sees the passion and vision he has for properties all over Central Iowa. No big crews. No unfamiliar faces. When you choose The Grass Man, you get Karter. Every. Single. Time.
